The Thin Purple Line Between Time and Money – Kimberly Gosney

The-thin-purple-line

Time versus money. An epic battle. I know that when I first started out I heard and probably even said on more than one occasion that it’s time or money that you’ll be investing in everything you do as an entrepreneur.

I’M STARTING TO SEE A SHIFT WHICH I’M NAMING THE THIN PURPLE LINE BETWEEN TIME & MONEY

“Working 24 hours a day isn’t enough anymore. You have to be willing to sacrifice everything to be successful, including your personal life, your family life, maybe more. If people think it’s any less, they’re wrong, and they will fail.” ~ Kevin O’Leary

I’M SHIFTING THE WAY I LOOK AT TIME & MONEY.

(I’m making them equal partners in everything!)

No longer is it a battle over time or money.

Or money over time.

It’s time & money, honey all the way.

Equal players on the entrepreneurial battlefield.

WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT TIME & MONEY IN MY FIRST $25K AS A FULL TIME ENTREPRENEUR

Everything will take more time than you think it should and everything costs you more money than you think it should have.

You can’t afford to waste your time & money on anything that isn’t going to give you what you need it to.

To paint the perfectly frosted picture here are three things that I think you’ve wasted your time & money on.

Yes, I’m a mind reader too! Add it to my Klout profile. I’ve got the power to read your mind.

YOUR BIG TIME & MONEY WASTERS

(These go hand in hand with vending machine tacos, tastes great going down and feels questionable afterward.)

1. Buying courses or programs because it’s what everyone else is recommending.

2. Worrying about bells & whistles before you’ve got the basics.

3. Over thinking everything as a way to feel in control of it all.

THOSE THREE THINGS WILL OWN YOUR TIME AND MONEY IF YOU LET THEM.

How do they have so much control over you? Who knows. Who cares. All that matters is that you’re in the drivers seat and it’s up to you to spot your big time & money wasters ASAP.

(Before they become icky time and money sucks.)

 1. Every 90 days pick one skill you need to learn and buy a course or something to show you how to do it.

This is the ultimate way to squash the shiny objects that pop into your inbox every single day.

Say you need to learn how to put yourself out there and get guest blog posting under your belt. You don’t need to buy a class or course on how to use Facebook ads, how to create an online course, how to write kick ass copy.

You need a course on how to master guest blogging.

2. Bells & whistles need to kiss your shiny happy hiney.

Got no website to share with people that want to find out more about you, but find yourself worrying about your freebie opt-in or first course, colors, fonts, images?!?

You’ve need to kiss it goodbye and work on your website first. Or else you’re wasting your time & money, honey.

3. Over thinking stuff means you’re not doing stuff which wastes your time & money.

Over thinking stuff shows up with arms wide open to draw you in. If only that font was 1 pixel bigger, what if I just used this shade of purple instead of that one, what if I use this image instead of that one, how do I embed a video on my website, how do I make a video to embed it on my website, my hair is a mess how can I make a video with my hair looking a hot mess?!?

Over thinking stuff is QUICKSAND to your business and your brand. It’ll waste your time & money faster than you can say …

Hellllllllp pull me out of this quicksand.

The only person that cares about your website is you. Your customers only care that you have one. Tweet that.

You care about your website and you think about it night and day. But, your website is the #1 biggest time & money waster in your business. Because it’s the #1 place that you’ll over think things to the death of your business.

If it’s taking you longer than 1/2 hour to do something on your website, you’re over thinking it.

If it’s taking you longer than 1/2 hour because you need to do something and you don’t know how to do it then it needs to go on your 90 day skill list.

I’M ADDING IN ONE MORE BIG TIME & MONEY WASTER IN YOUR BUSINESS

Consider it a freebie bonus ’cause you made it all the way to the end.

YOU.

You’re the one that’s ultimately in control of you – and the time & money that you’re investing in your business.

Are you putting YOU to work or just thinking about working?

You’ll need in more time & money than you’re investing today, especially if today you’re not making the money that you want from your business.

Are you keeping track of what you’re doing (or not doing) daily to keep your time & money in check?

Every second you’re spending in your business is either making you time & money or costing you time & money.

Today, I hope you’re making time & money in your business!

Hit me in the comments section below with how much time you’re investing in your business this week OR hit me with something that you’re adding to your 90 day plan.

Big hugs to you and your time & money!

Great advice. I relate to so many of these same issues. I keep looking for bells and whistles when I need to go back to the basics.
